Ashes stir around my ankles
Broken glass in blackened shells
Upward reaching shattered fingers
Bloody rags and tattered clothes
Leaden hangs my weary head
Heavy arms and hollow eyes
Burning bright autumnal fires
Leaves like hands turn black and close
Sirens return me to the world
Too late to save my smouldering home
Slowing cars and staring people
Their lives go on, but mine is coal
